ADA Anniversary Celebration July 26

LIFTT ADA Celebration, Friday July 26, 2024 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Billings LIFTT Office (1241 Crawford Drive)

Living Independently for Today & Tomorrow (LIFTT) invites the community to the Billings LIFTT office (1241 Crawford Drive) on Friday, July 26, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to celebrate the 34th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Aging & Disability Inclusion through Transportation

This year’s celebration theme is “Disability Inclusion through Transportation,” and it will feature a display from Billings MET Transit, where people can see both a standard city bus and the smaller vehicle used for providing paratransit services.

“Equal access to public and private transportation systems for older adults and people with disabilities is vital for enabling these groups to participate fully in society, accessing employment, education, healthcare, and social activities. It is in recognition of this vitality that LIFTT has chosen “Aging and Disability Inclusion through Transportation” as the theme for our celebration,” said LIFTT executive director Carlos Ramalho

Information and Vaccination

Along with the display from Billings MET Transit, there will be information tables from LIFTT and many other organizations that provide important programs and services to help people with disabilities be independent in their communities including Montana Vocational Rehabilitation,  Veterans Navigation Network, Big Sky Senior Services, Mountain Made K9, Forward Montana, Greater Good Health, Adult Resource Alliance of Yellowstone County, Healthy by Design Coalition, University of Montana Rural Institute for Inclusive Communities/MonTech, The Statewide Independent Living Council, AWARE, City of Billings Planning & Community Services/Yellowstone Metropolitan Planning Organization, Vitalant, The United Way of Yellowstone County, Eagle Mount, Billings Clinic and Tumbleweed.

RiverStone Health’s mobile vaccination unit will be on-site offering COVID-19, Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis), Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, HPV (Human papillomavirus), and Shingles to those 18 years and older, which private insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid cover. Those wishing to bill private insurance or Medicare will need to present a copy of their insurance card. For those without insurance, Tdap, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and COVID-19 vaccinations are available at no cost.

Fun & Food

There will be activities for kids, and the little ones can stay cool by taking a trip down a giant waterslide that will be set up near the resource fair.

The Tastes So Good, Lil Red Wagon, and Digz Filipino Kitchen food trucks will be on-site, and lunch will be available for purchase. Altana Federal Credit Union will have its “Ice Cream Bus” handing out free Wilcoxon’s frozen treats, and LIFTT will provide ADA birthday cake, bottled water, and other festive treats!

Finally, at 2 p.m. in LIFTT’s auditorium, LIFTT team members and other community and political leaders will offer brief remarks on the meaning of the ADA and the critical role transportation plays in creating a truly diverse and inclusive society.

“It will be a fun, engaging, and enlightening day for all, and we hope the community will join us for some or all of the event,” said Ramalho.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is June 15

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is June 15

World Elder Abuse Awarness Day (WEAAD) Logo, WEAAD is set for June 15, 2024

Each year since 2006, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA) have declared June 15 as “World Elder Abuse Awareness Day” (WEAAD). WEADD  aims to create an opportunity for communities around the world to promote a better understanding of the abuse and neglect of older persons by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic, and demographic circumstances affecting elder abuse and neglect.

For this year’s WEAAd) on  Saturday, June 15, 2024, LIFTT asks you to join us and our partners worldwide and commit to creating awareness of the diversity and complexity of experiences across the lifespan and challenge harmful ageist and ableist stereotypes that validate elder abuse. By ending ageism and ableism, we can begin to end elder abuse.

The National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA) and the National Clearinghouse on Abuse in Later Life (NCALL) have prepared a “WEAAD Action Guide” with facts about the realities of elder abuse and steps you can take to raise awareness and help advance solutions to this problem that engulfs millions of elders across the globe.

Grand Opening @ New Billings Location May 10

Grand Opening @ New Billings Location May 10

LIFTT invites you to join us for the grand opening of our new Billings location (1241 Crawford Drive) on Friday May 10 from 11-2

Living Independently for Today & Tomorrow (LIFTT) is excited to announce the Grand Opening of our new office location at 1241 Crawford Drive in Billings. The event will take place on Friday, May 10, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Join them for a day filled with celebration, as we mark the beginning of a new chapter in our journey to empower individuals with disabilities in southeastern and south-central Montana. Guests can expect gourmet hors d’oeuvres catered by the Passages Culinary Arts Program, an official ribbon-cutting ceremony by the Billings Chamber of Commerce, and exciting door prizes including gift cards and baskets from local restaurants and businesses, MSU Bobcat Football tickets, hotel nights in Vegas, and more.

Executive Director Carlos Ramalho expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The grand opening will celebrate the new building, LIFTT’s permanent headquarters. For many years, we have dreamed of having our building, and our dream has become a reality.”

Ramalho added, “The grand opening is also a celebration of our team members’ resilience. On March 3, 2024, our lives were suddenly turned upside down after our previous location was flooded, and we had to suspend our operations. Thanks to all our team members, LIFTT could move to a building that had not been remodeled, had no telephone, and had no internet server. Working together, our team transformed a disaster into a success story, and on April 1, 2024, we were able to open our doors to the public we serve again.”

LIFTT invites the community to explore their new facility, learn more about their vast array of programs and services, and join them in celebrating this milestone event.

Grand Opening Sponsorships Available

LIFTT is looking for businesses and individuals interested in sponsoring our grand opening and contributing to our mission of promoting equality and independence for the disabled community in southeastern and south-central Montana. For more information about being a sponsor, please contact Hannah Olson at (406) 200-3068 or visit https://liftt.betterworld.org/campaigns/sponsor-our-grand-opening.
